U.S. Ethanol Industry Surpasses First Year Goal of RFS

The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) announced that the U.S. ethanol industry is now producing at a rate of more than 4 billion gallons annually - surpassing the first year goal of the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS), included in the recent energy bill.

According to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), ethanol production in the U.S. was averaging 261,000 barrels per day (b/d). That annualizes to just over 4 billion gallons.

Ethanol production was up 1,000 b/d over August, and up 35,000 b/d over September 2004.

While working as the Secretary for the Supply and Planning Department of a large Petroleum company in Australia, one of the projects I typed up for their Senior Supply Anayst was on the viability of Ethanol as an alternative fuel source. That was back in 1989. It was a known fact way back then that more energy went into the production of Ethanol that it could ever produce... and that is WITHOUT the volitility of climate (and climate change)... Good production (with reliable supply) is based on the weather. And volitile weather causes volitility of product and supply. It is time that the Pro-ethanol (as an alternative) comes clean... it is NOT clean, it is NOT viable, it will NEVER be able to replace oil. Lets move on to reliable, long term stable clean energy... such as wind, tidal, geo-thermal and solar.

and cut the crap!
